Industrial refrigeration goes wrong at the interfaces — between the design and the installer, and between the installer and whoever ends up maintaining it. We carry a project the whole way: load and process requirements, system selection between ammonia, CO₂ and glycol, engineering and layout, costed scope and programme, installation, commissioning under real load, and the service agreement that follows.

Which refrigerant is right for an industrial system — ammonia, CO₂ or glycol?

Ammonia is the most efficient choice for large, low-temperature loads and is normally the default for cold storage and freezing where a dedicated machinery room is possible. CO₂ suits sites where ammonia charge limits, occupied areas or insurance constraints make a large ammonia charge impractical, and it works well in cascade with ammonia. Glycol is not a primary refrigerant but a secondary loop: it keeps the ammonia or CO₂ charge confined to the plant room while distributing cooling through the building. Most real plants use a combination.

How long does an industrial refrigeration project take?

From first survey to commissioning, a straightforward plant expansion runs a few months and a new engine room with distributed evaporators commonly runs six months or more. The long poles are almost always equipment lead times — screw compressor packages and pressure vessels in particular — and the shutdown windows your production schedule allows. We build the programme around those two constraints and tell you early which one is driving the date.

Do you work on systems you did not install?

Yes, and a large share of industrial work is exactly that: plant installed decades ago, modified several times, with drawings that no longer match the pipework. We survey what is actually there, mark up accurate schematics, and work from those. Legacy ammonia plant in particular is usually worth maintaining rather than replacing.

Which industries do you serve?

Seafood processing and freezing, meat and poultry, dairy, bakery and frozen food, beverage production, cold storage and distribution, pharmaceutical and controlled-environment storage, ice plants and industrial process cooling. The common thread is a facility where refrigeration is production equipment rather than building services.

What area do you cover for industrial work?

Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford, and roughly a 50 km radius of the Halifax Regional Municipality for routine service calls. Industrial and large commercial projects are a different matter — for design, installation and major plant work we travel across the Maritimes and beyond, with travel quoted up front rather than appearing on the invoice afterwards. If you are outside the HRM and the job is substantial, ask.
