Ducted Heat Pump
Installation

A central heat pump only performs as well as the ductwork it breathes through. We start with the ducts and the heat loss calculation, then specify equipment against real numbers rather than a rule of thumb based on square footage.

Installation Done Properly

The Ductwork Decides
How Well It Performs

Most disappointing ducted heat pumps are not bad equipment. They are good equipment fighting undersized returns and leaky trunk lines. We measure airflow and static pressure before quoting, so the system we install can actually deliver what the specification sheet promises.

  • Heat Loss Calculation First Square footage, insulation, windows and exposure all go into the sizing. An oversized system short cycles and dehumidifies poorly; an undersized one leans on backup heat all winter.
  • Duct Modifications Quoted Up Front If returns need enlarging or a trunk needs sealing, you hear about it in the quote rather than discovering it as an extra halfway through the install.
  • Backup Heat Planned, Not Assumed We decide with you whether the existing furnace stays as backup, and set the changeover properly so the two systems are not working against each other.

Common Questions

Straight Answers

Will my existing ductwork work with a heat pump?

Sometimes as-is, often with modifications. The common shortfall is return-air capacity: a heat pump needs to move more air than the furnace did, and houses built around a furnace frequently have one undersized central return. We measure static pressure and airflow during the assessment and tell you exactly what, if anything, needs changing before the quote is finalised.

How long does a ducted heat pump installation take?

Most jobs run two to three days. A straightforward replacement of an existing central system can be quicker; adding significant ductwork or relocating the air handler takes longer. We give you the timeline after the site assessment rather than on the morning the crew arrives.

Can I keep my furnace as backup?

Yes, and in many Halifax houses it is the sensible setup. In a dual-fuel arrangement the heat pump does the heating for most of the season and the furnace takes over below a changeover temperature we set for your house and fuel costs. It also means you still have heat if the heat pump ever needs a part ordered in.

Are there rebates for a ducted heat pump?

Nova Scotia runs rebate programmes for heat pump upgrades, and support is generally strongest for households converting away from oil heat. Eligibility rules and amounts change, so we confirm what your specific job qualifies for during the assessment and help with the application paperwork where it applies.

Which brands do you install?

We work with York, Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Bryant and Mitsubishi Electric. Which one we recommend depends on the capacity you need, how the equipment performs at low outdoor temperatures, and parts availability in Nova Scotia — a system nobody can get parts for is a bad system regardless of the badge on it.
