Air Conditioner Repair
Diagnosed Properly

Running but not cooling, icing up, tripping the breaker, or dead altogether. Ace Refrigeration finds the actual fault before quoting a part, and urgent calls are prioritised on the schedule.

Halifax AC Repair

Diagnose First,
Then Quote the Fix

Air conditioning faults are easy to misread. Low refrigerant is a leak, not a top-up. Ice on the coil is usually airflow, not the compressor. We test the system before touching a part, so you pay for the repair that solves it rather than the first plausible guess.

  • Leaks Found, Not Just Topped Up A sealed system does not consume refrigerant. If it is low, it is leaking. We locate and repair the leak rather than recharging a system that will be empty again next summer.
  • All Makes and Models York, Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Bryant and Mitsubishi Electric — ducted or ductless, and regardless of who installed it.
  • Priority Scheduling No-cooling calls go to the front of the queue, and we get to you the same business day where the schedule allows.

Common Faults

What We Get Called For

Most air conditioning failures fall into a few categories, and a couple of them get worse fast if the system keeps running.

A
A

Running, Not Cooling

Air moving but no cold in it. Usually a refrigerant leak, a fouled condenser coil, or a failed capacitor on the outdoor unit.

Icing Up

Frost on the indoor coil or the copper line. Shut it off and let it thaw — running it iced can damage the compressor.

Tripping or Dead

Breaker tripping, unit not starting, or shutting down under load. Electrical faults need testing, not resetting repeatedly.

Common Questions

Straight Answers

My air conditioner runs but blows warm air. What is wrong?

The usual causes are a refrigerant leak, a condenser coil too dirty to reject heat, or a failed run capacitor leaving the compressor unable to start while the fan keeps turning. Check the filter and make sure the outdoor unit is clear of grass and debris first. If it is still warm after that, it needs testing rather than guesswork.

Why is there ice on my air conditioner?

Icing means the evaporator coil is running colder than it should, and the cause is almost always restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Turn the system off at the thermostat, leave the fan running to thaw it, and change the filter. If it ices again the cause is still there — running it frozen risks liquid refrigerant reaching the compressor, which is the expensive failure.

Does low refrigerant mean I have a leak?

Yes. Air conditioning is a sealed system, so refrigerant is not consumed the way fuel is. If the charge is low, it escaped somewhere. Topping it up without finding the leak buys you part of a season and vents refrigerant in the meantime, which is why we locate and repair the leak before recharging.

Is it worth repairing an older air conditioner?

Past roughly twelve to fifteen years, a major repair is often money better spent on replacement, and that gets clearer if the system uses a refrigerant being phased out and now costly to buy. We give you the repair cost, an honest read on what else is close to failing, and the replacement option, then leave the decision with you.

How soon can you get here?

We work Monday to Friday, 8AM to 5PM, and no-cooling calls are prioritised within that. Where the schedule allows we get to you the same business day; otherwise it is usually the next one. When you call we will tell you honestly where you sit in the queue.
